Without a doubt, Ch. Whippoorwill Razor was
the most significant contributor to the gene pool at Phantom
Kennels. This great
dog had everything that one could possibly want as a specimen of
the Pointer breed: Perfect conformation, a beautiful head,
beautiful profile, absolutely gorgeous features, exquisite
style, 12 o’clock straight up tail pointing and backing,
unbelievable speed, animation, endurance, supreme wild bird
finder, extremely easy to handle, extremely intelligent, quiet
in the kennel, easy to train and he stayed “over the hill”
broke. Razor was
very adaptable and ran extremely big when he needed to, but
always handled. He
won All-age and Shooting Dog events to prove it.
Because of his elegant looks, style, and
conformation, artist Constance Payne decided to paint a portrait
of Razor. It can be
seen at the William Secord Gallery in
New York City
or you can view it online at: http://www.dogpainting.com/art_detail.cfm?Reference_Number=CP_11
He easily won the All America Shooting Dog
Championship held in S. Dakota with 5 dazzling finds on
pheasants during 90 degree weather and finished the one hour
event far to the front. Tip
Davis, one of the judges, commented that he put down one of the
most perfect performances he had ever seen.
In his prime, Razor weighed about 55 lbs.
He was a great stud and sired pups until he was 12 years
old. He passed away
when he was 14 years old and never had any serious health
problems during his life. His
progeny seem to carry these traits as well.
When it comes to bloodlines, Razor had it all.
Sired by the great Ch. Dunn’s Fearless Bud, his dam was
also a daughter of Ch. Whippoorwill Rex and National Ch. El Sauz
Doll. What more
could you ask for?
Razor consistently improved the quality of
our pups and delivered a high percentage of extremely great
wild bird dogs with the great style and class. Phantom’s
Razorette, Phantom’s Sharper Image, and Phantom’s Shooter carry
the Razor blood in our current line up of matrons and studs.
These great individuals
are showing that they are great producers as well.
Additionally, we have other young dogs that will be in
our breeding program in the future!
